The last day of the Turkey Innovation Week, organized by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy, and having exceeded 400 participants in five years, welcomed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and ministers as well as important names from the business and export world.
President Erdogan noted, “TIM InovaLIG received applications from 761 firms this year, while it was 488 last year. An innovation that is not adopted by our young people has no chance of succeeding. We must transform this activity into an activity that is the accounting of our goals. I am always with you in this regard.”
TIM's Chairman Mehmet Büyükekşi, who hosted the event, said, "As a result of the works performed, Turkey ranks 42nd in the Global Innovation Index this year, rising 16 steps upward. Innovation in reaching bigger targets will develop wings for Turkey"
Büyükekşi pointed out that the rate of domestic contribution in the satellite Turkey launched this week is 20 percent and added “As noted by our President, the only way to promote a domestic contribution rate of 80 percent is to write satellite software. Let our youth work, be patient and remove “impossible” from their vocabulary. As the old saying goes, 'do not say no never ever, the thing that you see impossible will happen someday later'”.
The third and last day of the 5th Turkey Innovation Week, organized by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy, took place with wide participation. I am always with you in this regard.” President Erdogan also noted that R & D employment, which was 76 thousand people in 2001, has exceeded 224 thousand in 2016 while R & D source is over 20 billion TL this year.

We need to make satellite software
Referring to the fact that innovative initiatives by young people will play a role in reaching the 2023 goals of Turkey, Mr. Buyukeksi said, “We launched a satellite this week. But the rate of domestic contribution is 20 percent. President Erdogan advised us to raise this rate of domestic contribution to 80 percent from now on. The only way to do this is by making satellite software.”
Ahlborn: “The problem in Turkey is not talent, follow up your vision”
Within the event, Dirk Ahlborn, the creator of Hyperloop, a high-level means of transportation, gave a lecture entitled "Transforming Hyperloop into the Truth." Dirk Ahlborn, who introduced Hyperloop technology in his speech, said, "This is a capsule that moves very fast from one point to another. We use solar, kinetic and wind energy here since we want it to be a green means of transportation. If there were Hyperloops in our lives, for example, we could reach the out-of-town airports faster; or in terms of transportation a cargo could reach Europe in a few hours from China. Next year we can change the base of public transport. We are in talks with 20 countries for this system."
Pranav Mistry, Vice President of Samsung Electronics, as one of the speakers of the event, said, "Thanks to the 6th sense technology I am developing, we are removing the technology from the taboos as well as images from pixels. Images are reflected on paper and walls, you can manipulate with your hand gestures. You can transform your hand into a phone, your arm into a watch."
Büyükekşi asked, columnists talked about innovation
The panel titled “The power of Innovation in the Economic Development”, organized within the scope of the event, witnessed the change of roles where TIM's Chairman Mehmet Buyukeski, as the moderator, addressed questions to the journalists. Hakan Guldag, Executive Editor of Dunya Newspaper; Vahap Munyar, Columnist at Hurriyet Newspaper and Abdurrahman Yıldırım, Economy Author of Haber Turk Newspaper attended the panel. Mr. Buyukesi pointed out the great role that the media should undertake and added, "You need to focus on a business to reach innovation and success, not on the current account of Turkey. After you focus on that business, you need to be very patient by working hard."
Hakan Guldag, Executive Editor of Dunya Newspaper noted, “I believe that the embracement of innovation in Turkey is important and true. From here, we see that Turkey do not drop by the wayside from the global innovation race. We must create an ecosystem for innovation as a country, and one foot of this system should be the press. You cannot remove a seed from its soil as it is.”
A committee should be established in the media to assess innovation
Vahap Munyar, Columnist at Hurriyet Newspaper, underlined that "I have visited Finland and Holland with TIM as part of the innovation. In Finland we have seen that innovation is provided through the education system, starting from primary education. We, as the country, must bring the concept of innovation to our children of these ages.”
Abdurrahman Yıldırım, Economy Author of Haber Turk Newspaper also noted, "We have to rise to the 20th place in the world order with regards to the innovation. The most important contribution of innovation weeks is to encourage new entrepreneurs to start work. Innovation must be transformed into state and nation politics, and so the existing deficiency must be eliminated.
