Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly made a statement about the recent developments in the Middle East. Mr. Büyükekşi said the followings:
“The hostility among the countries, that we have deep friendship in the Middle East, is upsetting us. Turkey has always been in a constructive role and never been afraid to take responsibility of the issues among the countries in the Middle East. As exporters, having strong religious, historical and cultural ties with these countries, we are focusing on solutions rather than searching gains from the crises. In this sense, it is our greatest desire that the diplomatic initiatives conducted by the President of the Republic of Turkey for the continuation of dialogue between the parties give positive results.
Turkey has $700 million trade volume with Qatar. Among Turkey's $439 million exports, electrical and electronic products ranked first. It is followed by defense and aviation, iron and nonferrous metals, furniture and machinery sectors. In the food products group, our exports to Qatar is around $37 million. Of course, we could see an increase in Qatar's demand for our products in the coming days. I would like to express that; our exporters have the experience, the accumulation and the power that can meet any demand, not only from Qatar but from the whole world. There are statements that Qatari authorities demands basic foodstuffs from Turkey. As TIM, there is no request that has reached to us yet. However, if any demand comes, we will always respond to these requests. As exporting to 240 customs points over the world today, we would continue to export to Qatar in the similar way. Not only food, but we are in a position to respond quickly to all demands that may arise in any area of the world. This feature takes us to the forefront in global competition conditions.”
