Exports Increased by 12.2% in May

Turkey's export figures for May2018, were announced by the Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly, Mehmet Büyükekşi and the Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci at Menderes Textile, Denizli.

Mehmet Büyükekşi, announced the export figures for the last time as the Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly. Büyükekşi told that; "I am proud that my final export announcement is also a record. In May, Turkey's exports were $14 billion with an increase of 12.2%, which is a new record for May.”

Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said, "We started an export and growth mobilization last year, we tripled the support for exports and we had a successful year. We said that we will break records every month this year and our exporters are doing so.”

Automotive sector maintained its leadership

In May, automotive was the leading sector with $2.8 billion dollars. The sector's exports increased by 7.9 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Automotive was followed by apparel with $1.49 billion chemicals with $1.46 billion.

EU exports up 18.8 percent

Exports to EU increased by 18.8 percent, while the share of EU in Turkey's exports was 51.6 percent in May.

Exports to 154 countries and regions increased in May. The top five countries were Germany, UK, Italy, Spain and France. Among the top 20 countries, the highest increase was in Russia with 56 percent.

Istanbul is the leader, Denizli's exports increased by 19.7 percent

In May, exports increased in 52 provinces. Top five provinces in exports were; Istanbul with $6.2 billion, Bursa and Kocaeli with $1.2 billion, İzmir with $833 million and Ankara with $685 million. The highest increase in exports among the top 10 was achieved by Ankara with 27.9 percent.
