Exports totaled 11 billion 443 million dollars in April

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) stated that exports totaled 11 billion 443 million dollars in the month of April with a loss of 2.8 percent compared to the same month of the last year. In the first 4 months of the year, exports decreased 8.4 percent to 46 billion 187 million dollars.

Automotive industry maintained its leadership in April with 2 billion dollars of exports; tis sector was followed by ready-made clothing and garment sector with 1.5 billion dollars and chemical articles and products with 1.2 billion dollars.

Before starting his speech, TIM Chairman Mehmet Büyükekşi condemned the act of terror that occurred in Gaziantep. He said “We will keep standing upright against terror and will show this in Gaziantep”. He told that the first event of 10 countries 10 provinces program will be held in Gaziantep. Then he said that he will be in Gaziantep on May 3rd with Mr. Elitaş.

TIM Chairman emphasized that in the development of exports the share of the workers is as much as the share of businessmen and congratulated May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day.

Büyükekşi noted that exports increased on quantity basis despite a decrease in April and said “Decrease in export prices is effective in the decline of our exports. However, the increase of our exports on quantity is making us happy”.

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) announced the export figures for the month of April in EXPO Fair Center in Antalya. According to TIM data exports totaled 11.4 billion dollars in April with a decline of 2.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In the first 4 months of the year, the total was 46.2 billion dollars with a loss of 8.4 percent. In the last 12-month period 139.6 billion dollars of export was made, with a decline of 9.6 percent compared to the previous year.

Of all sectors, tobacco sector increased its export the most

On sectoral basis, automotive industry made the most amount of export in April, with 2 billion 47 million dollars, which corresponds to an increase of 11.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. This was followed by ready-made clothing and garment sector with 1 billion and 526 million dollars and 13.3 percent increase, and by chemical articles and products with 1 billion 229 million dollars and 14.6 percent loss.

In April, the highest export increase among the industrial sectors was defense and aviation industry sector with 14.9 percent; in agricultural sector the highest increase was in tobacco sector with 47.3 percent. On the other hand, exports increased in 12 sectors and decreased in 14 sectors on quantity basis.

In the first 20 countries, exports increased to Holland the most

In April, our exports increased to 106 countries and decreased to 131 countries. In this period, among the 5 countries that we export most, our exports to Germany increased 3.8 percent, Italy 12.7 percent, USA 11.9 percent but exports to England decreased 1.3 percent and Iraq 27.9 percent.

Among the top 20 countries that Turkey exports to, the highest rate of increase was exports to Holland, with 28.2 percent. Other countries that come forward in exports increase were Bulgaria with 26.6 percent and Iran with 23.9 percent. On the basis of regions, exports to EU increased 5.1 percent, to non-EU Europe 15.6 percent, to Far East countries 11.1 percent; exports to Middle East declined 14 percent and Commonwealth of Independent States 22 percent.

33 Provinces increased exports

Considering the exports on the basis of provinces, we see that exports of 33 provinces have increased in April. Among the 10 top provinces, exports of 6 provinces declined; exports of Bursa, İzmir, Gaziantep and Manisa increased.

“Antalya is the most beautiful place of the world”

Büyükekşi mentioned the importance of announcing the export figures in Antalya and said “Starting from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words 'No doubt, Antalya is the most beautiful place of the world”, this city has reached very significant places in agriculture and tourism. Antalya exported 217 million dollars' worth of vegetables last year and became the leader city in greenhouse production. In addition to these successes Antalya held large organizations of international size; now it is hosting the EXPO2016, which was opened with the participation of our President. EXPO was organized with the title “A Green World for the Future Generations”; it will make a great contribution to the promotion of Antalya and Turkey”. Büyükekşi continued as follows:

“Antalya's exports increased 2.5 times in the last 10 years and reached 943 million dollars. In the same period, Antalya was placed 11th in the ranking of number of exporters; last years it climbed up to the 9th position with 1,134 export companies. The goal is to sue the potential of Antalya to the end and make sure it takes it position higher up in the exports listing. In this context, as we announced last week in the '10 provinces 10 countries' program, we matched Antalya with Germany. We will organize seminars in the coming days for our exporters from Antalya to focus on Germany”.
