Turkey-Costa Rica Business Forum and bilateral business negotiations, which is under the coordination of the Ministry of Economy and TIM organization, held in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica on September 28-29, 2017. Costa Rican firms represantatives and 20 Turkish business people operating in various sectors kept together through the forum and B2B negotiations.

Before the event which was closely followed by national press and media of Costa Rica, Deputy Chairman of TIM and Head of Delegation Mr. Mustafa ÇIKRIKÇIOĞLU gave important interviews to the two biggest TV channels of the country.

Hon. John FONSECA, The Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica honoured the forum which was held by the joint organization of Costa Rica Chamber of Foreign Trade (CRECEX) and our Assembly.

In the opening speech, Jose Manuel Quirce-Lacayo, the president of CRECEX and Importer Associations, expressed that they were well-honored to welcome first trade delegation from Turkey for the first time in 67 years since the first relations between Costa Rica and Turkey started in 1950.

LACAYO emphasized that Costa Rica is aiming to get bigger share in Central American Trade under favour of current projects of free trade zone which is planned to be established in the near future while he talked about general informations about Costa Rica economy and bilateral foreign trade with Turkey.

Following the speech of LACAYO, The Deputy Minister FONSECA stated that economic, trade and cultural relations between the two countries reached a top level with diplomatic missions opened in 2014. He also underlined the fact that foreign trade between the two countries grew by 65% ​​between 2012 and 2016, adding that the relationship between the two countries should be more improved in order to better benefit from the open market policy and free trade zones in the region.

After FONSECA, H.E. Nuri Kaya BAKKALBASI, our Ambassador to Costa Rica went up to the rostrum. “Despite the traitor coup attempt on 15 July, our country has grown in the first quarter of 2017. This is the first time a large and corporate trade delegation is organized in Costa Rica and we will continue to organize trade delegations all over the world” he said.

Afterwards the forum, the presentation film about the economy and foreign trade data of our Assembly and our country was reflected on cinevision screen and it received great applause from the participants.

Finally, Mr. Mustafa CIKRIKCIOGLU, Head of Delegation, thanked Deputy Minister FONSECA and CRECEX authorities for their special attention and warm welcome at the end of his talk about the economic success of the last 15 years, foreign trade and prominent sectors of Turkey.

Following the end of forum and family photo ceremony, B2B negotiations started between our company representatives and big Costa Rican importers and retailers like WALMART. In B2B negotiations attended by 60 firms from the other side, about 200 business connections were held between our companies and Costa Rican business people.
