Strong Export Growth in 2017 will Help GDP

Chairman of Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TİM), Mehmet Büyükekşi, commented on 2016 Q4 and annual GDP data.

The Chairman's comments are as below;

“Turkey outperformed the expectations with 3.5% GDP growth in the last quarter of 2016. Even though this figure is below our potential, considering the terrorist attacks, coup attempt and the war on our border, we still think Turkey had a successful performance in the last quarter.

2016 was a true challenge for Turkey, considering both internal and external developments. Despite facing these hardships, growing 2.9% on yearly basis is commendable.

It is clear that, the Government's actions to stimulate the economy has started to show their effects. We believe, these effects will be stronger in 2017 and further strengthen Turkey's growth. In 2017, we will grow more, export more and employ more. Together, we will reach our potential and realize 2023 targets.”
