The Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) announced June 2017 export figures at the baby cloth production facilities of Altunkaya Group Companies in Gaziantep, which was placed 30th in TIM 1000 research, with the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister's Mehmet Simsek.
According to TIM data's, Turkey exports increased by 1.8% in June, reaching 12.1 billion dollars.
The chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, Mehmet Buyukeksi, commented upon recent export figures; “We can proudly say that since November, our exports have been increasing for 8 consecutive months. We displayed our success by raising our exports in June even though it was 2 working days short due to the Ramadan holiday. It is a great source of happiness for us that we have achieved a steady increase from the beginning of 2017 which was declared the year of breakthrough” Buyukeksi also added “In the first six months of the year, exports increased by 8.2 percent to 76 billion 383 million dollars, and in the last 12 months exports increased by 4.5 percent to 147 billion 329 million dollars.”
Quantity-based exports increased by 4.1 percent in June and 12.6 percent in the first six months. The leading sector in June was automotive with 2.5 billion dollars as usual, with an increase of 16.4 percent. The automotive sector was followed by apparel sector with 1.4 billion dollars and chemicals sector with 1.3 billion dollars.
In addition to these, the highest increase of industrial products group was in the ship and yacht sector, with 178 percent. In the agricultural sectors, the highest increase was recorded in olive and olive oil sector with 63 percent.
Among the top 20 countries in Turkey's exports, the largest increase was in Russia with 89.1 percent. Commenting on the data, Büyükekşi told “The increase in exports to Russia was due to the recovery in fresh fruits and vegetables sector.”
When we look at the country groups, exports to EU has increased by 2.8% and EU's share in Turkey's exports has reached to 50.5% in June. In the first 6 months of 2017, exports to EU rose by 3 billion dollars. After EU, the second highest increase was in North America by 936 million dollars and Middle East countries by 659 million dollars. Evaluating the export performance of provinces, Büyükekşi said, "6 out of the first 10 provinces recorded an increase in exports in June and the highest increase was 267%, at Sakarya due to the recent automotive sector investment.
