From TİM, “Republic Is Our Tradition, Export Is Our Future” Film

TİM CHAIRMAN GÜLLE: WE RUN TOWARDS $220 BILLION IN EXPORT

The special film released by Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) to celebrate the Republic Day of October 29th was highly appreciated by the audiences. TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle, "The struggle for economic independence, which was initiated in the early years of the Republic, will always continue. Economic independence is only possible with production and export. Export is a Republic project in itself. Atatürk's struggle for economic independence at the İzmir Economic Congress continues today. I hope this post-global crisis period will be a new leap year for Türkiye. The numbers tell us this. Today, our exporter has reached 100 thousand. We want to increase this to 130 thousand in five years and 300 thousand in 10 years. Our export was 50 million dollars in 1923. Today, it goes to $220 billion." he said.

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 100 thousand exporters with 61 Exporters' Associations and 27 sectors, which continues its efforts for the goal of 'Türkiye Giving a Foreign Trade Surplus', received great appreciation from the audiences also this year, with its film with the slogan "Republic is our tradition, Export is our future" in which it celebrates the 29 October Republic Day. In the film, which gives the message of conveying Anatolian motifs and our strong tradition to the world through export, the historical and cultural heritage of Anatolia, the early years of the Republic and images from the present are also brought to the screen, while the famous artist Ferhat Göçer interprets the folk song in the film.

"The vision that the Republic brought to export built our present"

İsmail Gülle, chairman of Turkish Exporters Assembly, made an evaluation on the 29 October Republic Day, "The factories established in the first years of the Republic, the İzmir Economic Congress... All of these developments have built our present as visionary and strategic steps that the Republic has brought to export. The admire of the whole world to our İHA (UAV) and SİHA (AUAV) in the sky enviously, the participation of hundreds of thousands of foreign customers in our fairs, and the presence of more than 100 thousand exporters in Türkiye's 81 cities are all thanks to the visionary steps taken in the first years of the Republic. During the ongoing process, a new global order and a completely different economic system were introduced with a world war. Türkiye adopted an agricultural growth model by the 1950s. The foundations of the successful level we have reached in agriculture today were laid in those days. Today, Türkiye exports 28 billion dollars of agricultural products annually. The establishment of large industrial facilities in our country took place by the 1960s and 1970s and the role of industry in Türkiye's economic structure was strengthened. We can say that the 1980s were a breakthrough period for Türkiye. Our production, trade, tourism, and exports achieved great gains during this period. Under the leadership of the late Turgut Özal, Türkiye almost met the world. Look at the brands that represent Türkiye in the world today, the companies that export the most. The vast majority were either founded in the 1980s or shone during that period. Today, our manufacturing industry exports reached 161 billion dollars annually." he said.

"We export nearly 5 thousand products to 226 countries and regions"

Emphasizing Türkiye's success in export, Gülle said, "By the 2000s, in the age of globalization, Türkiye evaluated this period very well. Our share of global trade doubled during this period. In this period, Türkiye was the 8th country to increase its exports the most among 46 countries that exported over 50 billion dollars. In our country, the number of provinces that export more than 1 billion dollars increased from 5 to 17. Now, we export nearly 5 thousand products to 226 countries and regions. Our high-tech product exports have tripled. When we look at what we have experienced in the last year and a half, we see that a new economic transformation has occurred in the world as a result of the crises created by the pandemic. As the export family, we have sought and continue to look for ways to move our country forward while these crises are happening. Crises include opportunities. During this global crisis, our exports exceeded 200 billion dollars for the first time in our history. As of September, we have exported more than $212 billion years on year. As an export family, we can now make it clear that we are taking advantage of the opportunities in the crisis correctly. It is necessary to think about all these stories in a historical continuum."

"The number of exporters is increasing every year"

Noting that the struggle for economic independence started by Atatürk at the İzmir Economic Congress continues today, Gülle said, "I hope that this post-global crisis period will be a new leap period for Türkiye. The numbers tell us this. According to the export projections we have created, Türkiye will increase its export to more than 300 billion dollars annually in the next five years. Today, our exporter has reached 100 thousand. We want to increase this to 130 thousand in five years and 300 thousand in 10 years. We want to make export a national issue. Our exports were 50 million dollars in 1923. Today, it goes to $220 billion. We are committed to bringing Türkiye to an economy that has a foreign trade surplus. We are aware that the way going to this goal passes through R&D and technology investments, high value-added and branded products, sustainability, and innovation. As TİM, we spend a lot of time in all these areas. The Republic means independence. The struggle for economic independence, which was initiated in the early years of the Republic, will always continue. Economic independence is only possible with production and export. Export is a Republic project in itself. The way to the goal of 'To rise above the contemporary civilizations' shown by Atatürk passes through exports today."
