As a result of our work, our country, which produces for the world without consuming the world, will rise with exports with both a sustainable development model; and will become the number one choice of everyone who values the environment. When we started this way as exporters, we had two important tasks. The first was to achieve sustainable exports. Thank God we all did it together. We have connected our exports to a sustainable basis. Now our task is to give a sustainable foreign trade surplus... Türkiye's leading sustainable activity is exporting. Exporters are the seniors who know the concept of sustainability best."

Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 100 thousand exporters with 61 exporter associations and 27 sectors, continues its work at full speed to achieve its export target, strengthen the 'Made in Türkiye' brand, and leave a better Türkiye for the future generations. In this context, TİM has launched a campaign to achieve the target of "Sustainable Türkiye in All Areas".

TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle shared the main objectives and roadmap of the "TİM Sustainability Action Plan" prepared with the slogan "We produce for the world without consuming the world", under the leadership of TİM Women's Council, with the public. TİM Women's Council Members and Sectors Council members also attended the press launch. In the action plan, the 12 main objectives were determined as 'TİM Sustainability Science Board in Industry, Zero Waste Mobilization in Exports, Digital Mentoring and Training Programs, Corporate Carbon Footprint Studies, Circularity and Advanced Gain in Industry, Advanced Refining Technologies, Sustainable Supply Chain Management, Standardization Practices, Certification Practices, Renewable Energy Resources, Sustainable Economic Growth and Employment, Digital Product Passport and Traceability'.

"Exporters are the seniors who know the concept of sustainability best"

Expressing that they have great excitement about the mobilization they launched in the name of a sustainable future as the Turkish Exporters Assembly, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, "Türkiye's leading sustainable activity is exporting. Exporters are the seniors who know the concept of sustainability best. There is stability, persistence, posture, love of homeland, human love, and love of nature in the concept of sustainability, and most of all, there is love and sharing. When we started this way as exporters, we had two important tasks. The first was to achieve sustainable exports. Thank God we all did it together. We have connected our exports to a sustainable basis. Now our task is to give a sustainable foreign trade surplus."

“Last year, we gave a foreign trade surplus to 148 countries”

Noting that last year, they gave a foreign trade surplus to 148 countries, Gülle continued, “It is up to us to make this success sustainable and to increase the number of countries where we have a foreign trade surplus. However, we need to keep climate change and the environment on all the time alive. Because climate change is no longer for future generations; Today, it has become a direct problem for us. It is a very important that development for exports that the European Union, with which we have had a foreign trade surplus since we took over the task in 2018, has persistently expressed its goal of becoming a carbon-neutral continent. No one should doubt that our exporter will continue to give a sustainable surplus by value with the Green Agreement. We are working hard with TİM and our Exporters' Unions to complete the process successfully. To guide our work, for the first time in the history of TİM, we have established sub-working committees under the headings of "Sustainability and Climate" within the body of the Committee on Climate Change and our Women's Council. We organized "TİM European Green Agreement Awareness Meetings" on three different dates with the main grouping of Energy Intensive, Resource Intensive, and Agricultural Sector. To increase the adequacy of our staff working within the Exporters' Associations on climate change, we organized "Climate Change and EU Green Order Training" in cooperation with Bosphorus University Climate Change and Policy Implementation and Research Center.

"All these works were matured by the outstanding work of our Women's Council"

Stating that they prepared the "European Pre-Accession Assistance Tool IPA III" project call under the title of "Green Agenda and Sustainability", Gülle said, “After the project call of Istanbul Development Agency, we applied with the "Zero Carbon Facilitation Center" project for our exporters to comply with the carbon regulation at the border. Within the scope of “COSME Program: Innovation and Technology in European Light Industry” call, we have applied for a project that will accelerate the digital, technological, and green transformation steps of our exporters. Within the scope of TUBITAK Network Membership Support, we have completed our efforts to join the European Climate Network. Hopefully, we expect positive results. All these efforts were matured with the outstanding work and efforts of our Women's Council and enabled us to implement the 'Sustainability Action Plan'.

The 12 main objectives in the TİM sustainability action plan:

İsmail Gülle listed the 12 main targets in the action plan:

*Our first goal is to create the Sustainability Science Board in TİM Industry.

In line with the action plan implemented under the leadership of our President, we will follow the progress of our sectors by the board we will create as TİM. Through a sustainable export strategy, sectoral action plan, and public consultation mechanism; we will have the chance to follow the whole process closely in stages. In addition, it will hold evaluation meetings by forming sector boards affiliated with the Scientific Council; we will publish the "Sustainability Report" at the end of the year.

*Our second goal is to carry the "Zero Waste Project" under the auspices of First Lady Emine Erdoğan to every sector in our exports.

In this context, we will lead the way in creating a waste inventory of enterprises, combining them on a common platform, evaluating them, and providing technical inventory to companies. We will also mentor the minimization of waste, the acquisition of energy from waste, and the development of a waste management business model for exporters.

*Our third goal; to create a sustainability ecosystem with Digital Mentoring and Training programs. In this regard, we have planned many pieces of training and projects under the umbrella of the ecological export academy.

*Our fourth goal is to open a new chapter in corporate carbon footprint studies.

In this regard, we will first encourage companies to measure their corporate carbon footprint through scientific methods.

*Our fifth goal is to add value to our economy with circularity and advanced gains in the industry.

In this topic, we will carry out training and awareness studies on the reuse of materials, recovery of in-production waste, and all materials that have reached the end of their life.

*Our sixth goal is in the field of "advanced treatment technologies", which has been even more prominent in the agenda with the recent picture in the Marmara Sea.

In this respect, we will carry out studies on improving existing infrastructure and evaluating wastewater in industrial facilities with advanced treatment technologies.

*Our seventh goal is to address supply chain management on a sustainable basis.

In this topic, we will follow the dissemination of the integrated environmental information system implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. In addition, we will carry out awareness studies to change the behavior patterns, thinking, and working patterns of all stakeholders in the value chain.

*Our eighth goal is standardization.

This issue is not only in the field of sustainability; it is one of our most important topics in all matters related to our exports. Because the standards are very important also in terms of branding. In this topic, we will facilitate the work of our exporter sectors by current international standards and access to financing in the sector boards. We will also follow and expand international standardization and certification practices.

*Our ninth goal is to further promote certification practices in our exports. Here, we will integrate the works into all our exporter sectors by using the successful models we have implemented in all our sectors.

*Our tenth goal is to focus on renewable energy sources in all areas.

We will encourage certification processes for the Renewable Energy Resource Guarantee System to have international validity. We will contribute to the greater benefit of our exporters from EU funds focused on the Circular Economy Action Plan and the European Green Agreement.

*Our eleventh goal is to encourage the creation of authorized corporate and supply chain sustainability units in enterprises.

Thus, we will ensure economic growth supported by production activities, entrepreneurship, innovation, and development-oriented policies.

*Our final goal in our action plan is to develop digital product passports and traceability applications.

In this respect, we will be a pioneer in creating incentive areas for the dissemination of Sectoral Digital Product Passport applications with Blockchain technology. We will strengthen international financing sources through Eximbank and other domestic incentive mechanisms to address the financial need.
