TİM CHAIRMAN GÜLLE: OUR EXPORTS TO LATIN AMERICA EXCEEDED 3 BILLION DOLLARS
Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) continues its Virtual Trade Delegation programs with Latin America, which has an economic size of 5.7 trillion dollars, to reduce the effects of Covid-19 on exports.
Speaking at the opening of the program, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle said, "Latin America is a market where we keep our targets high in every sector. Our annual exports to the region have exceeded 3 billion dollars. The share of our exports to the region in our total exports is about 2 percent. As field workers of the export family, we give priority to South America in our delegations. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have signed 76 Virtual Trade Delegation organizations in 6 continents, 61 countries. as TİM and Exporters' Associations. I believe that all these activities will lead our country to the export target of 184 billion dollars, which we want to reach and exceed in 2021, or even 200 billion dollars."
While Turkish exporters have achieved historic successes by breaking records every month despite the coronavirus pandemic, exports to Latin countries have increased in recent years. Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the only umbrella organization of 100,000 exporters with 61 exporter associations and 27 sectors, organized the Virtual Trade Delegation program to increase export figures and to create opportunities for new collaborations and sales to participating companies for Latin America (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay).
To the opening of the program, which took place with TİM organization in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce; TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle and Mehmet Tan, Director General of Foreign Representatives and International Events of the Ministry of Commerce, Turkish Ambassador to Buenos Aires Şefik Vural Altay, Turkish Ambassador to Asuncion Serhat Aksen, Turkish Ambassador to Santiago Gülcan Akoğuz, Turkish Ambassador to Montevideo Hüseyin Müftüoğlu attended.
"Virtual landing in 61 countries on 6 continents"
Speaking at the opening of the program, TİM Chairman İsmail Gülle emphasized that since the beginning of the pandemic, TİM and Exporters' Associations have signed 76 Virtual Trade Delegation organizations in 6 continents, 61 countries. Stating that they are pioneers not only in Virtual Trade Delegations but also in Virtual Fairs and Virtual Purchasing Delegations, Gülle said, "As the leaders of trade diplomacy in the field, we organized 13 special qualified purchasing delegations with the participation of foreign retail companies from 10 countries. With the participation of over 5,400 foreign companies, we organized 11 virtual fairs. Although vaccination activities have increased in the world and normalization processes have accelerated, we intend to continue our activities in a digital environment without interruption. I believe that all these activities will lead our country to the export target of 184 billion dollars, which we want to reach and exceed in 2021 or even 200 billion dollars.
"The share of the region in our total exports is 2 percent"
Noting that annual exports to the region exceed 3 billion dollars, Gülle said: "Latin America is a market where we keep our goals high in every sector. The share of our exports to the region in our total exports is about 2 percent. In Latin America, which has an economic size of $5.7 trillion and a population of 646 million, we need to do much better. As field workers of the export family, we give priority to South America in our delegations. With our TİM Women's Council, we held a Virtual Trade Delegation to Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico last year for our female exporters. 109 companies, 26 local and 83 foreign participated in our delegation. Between these companies, 188 bilateral business interviews were held. The fact that our delegation to Latin America started with such intense participation reveals that there is an intense interest in the region in our sectors within the scope of the delegation.
"280 million dollars in exports to Chile"
Gülle also gave information about the export figures for the countries within the scope of the delegation and “We see that our exports in 2020 are at the level of 280 million dollars to Chile, 154 million dollars to Argentina, 52 million dollars to Uruguay and Paraguay. With the regionalization trend, the regional and close supply tendency is getting stronger, which attracts investments into the regional trade areas. One of these trade areas is the South American Common Market, also known as Mercosur. While Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay are members of Mercosur within the scope of our delegation, Chile is a partner country. As an export family, we need to closely follow this common market where the potential of our exporter is high." he said.
"Mercosur countries carried out a billion dollars of imports from Türkiye"
Giving information that the five-nation Mercosur imported the most from China in 2019 with 49.3 billion dollars, Gülle said, “Supply from this country constituted approximately 19.5 percent of total imports. While these countries made the second-largest import from the USA with 41.2 billion dollars; the imports from this country constituted 16.3 percent of the total imports. Mercosur countries carried out approximately 1 billion dollars of imports from our country in 2019. Türkiye's share of supply was about 0.4 percent. I believe that with this delegation, our trade relations will improve further and reach the levels it deserves in such a period of transformation in supply chains."
