Türkiye-Iraq Economic Cooperation Strengthened in Baghdad
Within the scope of the “Iraq General Trade and Contracting Delegation” held in Baghdad, Turkish and Iraqi businesspeople convened, taking new steps to reinforce trade and investment relations between the two countries.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Trade and organized by the Türkiye Exporters Assembly (TİM), the “Iraq General Trade and Contracting Delegation” program was held in Baghdad from October 29 to November 1, 2025, with high-level participation. The event was attended by Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat, Iraq's Minister of Trade Etir Davud Selmani, TİM Vice Chairman Ahmet Fikret Kileci, TİM Board Members, and representatives from both countries' business communities.
“Our goal is to elevate the trade volume even further”
Speaking at the program's opening, Minister of Trade Prof. Dr. Ömer Bolat emphasized that Türkiye and Iraq are natural trade partners. Bolat noted the continued robust cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, agriculture, industry, logistics, energy, and defense industries. Bolat stated, “We must work even harder for our mutual interests and the prosperity of our peoples. During my tenure, this marks my fourth visit to Iraq, and we place great importance on involving our business community in these processes.”
Minister Bolat drew attention to Iraq's extensive infrastructure and development projects, highlighting that the Development Road Project constitutes a turning point for Iraq. Bolat remarked, “This project will mark the beginning of a new era of development in Iraq.”
As part of the program, Turkish exporters and contracting companies held bilateral meetings with Iraqi businesspeople. Additionally, the second session of the Türkiye-Iraq Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) was held. At the conclusion of the meetings, the JETCO II Term Protocol and the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Fairs were signed.
Within the scope of the delegation, the Baghdad-Turkish Export Products Fair was also inaugurated. Following the opening, Minister Bolat and Iraq's Minister of Trade Etir Davud Selmani visited the Turkish companies' stands and received information regarding their activities.
